On July 4, 1976 the Smithsonian Institute achieved the unthinkable when its new National Air & Space Museum opened on time (in just 34 months) and within budget. Gilbane, as the construction manager for the project, earned accolades from the General Services Administration (GSA) and national attention from even the most skeptical lawmakers. Since then Gilbane has managed numerous projects for the GSA, including civic facilities, courthouses and national monuments.

The GSA is a unique customer - often, many different agencies have a stake in how the structure will be built or rebuilt. Coordinating among those various departments takes expertise born of experience. Gilbane continues to maintain its long-term relationship with the GSA, successfully managing some of the most significant structures in our nation's history.
