This project included a three-story, 54,000-square-foot hospital addition of emergency/trauma rooms; treatment rooms; triage; 32 patient beds; obstetrics and delivery rooms; infant nurseries; doctor/nurse lounge; gift shop; and third-floor shell space to accommodate future needs. It also included a 3,500-square-foot renovation to the existing facility; extensive mechanical work to the existing central plant; installation of a new 500-ton cooling tower and 150-ton chiller; reconfiguration of piping; and associated site work.

280,000 SF library expansion and renovation project will provide a state-of-the-art library facility for over 34,000 students, faculty and staff. The number of individual study spaces will increase from 880 to 2,630. The total number of individual computer workstations will increase from 144 to 350. The project includes two classrooms in the basement for library instruction. A Function Room on the second floor will accommodate groups of approximately 350. The Function Room and adjoining catering kitchen will be a showcase on campus for special events and other multi purpose activities.

The community college consists of six buildings on a 200-acre site. The buildings total 436,000 square feet, with construction cost totaling $72.9 million. The entire project is being completed in a 24-month fast-track schedule. The buildings consist of two academic classroom facilities, a library and an administrative facility. The library itself is a joint venture with Harris County and measures more than 80,000 square feet.

Construction of a 275,000 SF state-of-the-art high school including a 21,000 SF gymnasium and athletic facilities including a new 35,000 SF varsity sports complex is now underway. Each of the 86 classrooms contains Internet accessible student workstations and is equipped with climate control units and modern amenities such as TVs and telephones. Unique features include 635-foot sweeping radius walls, 2 stories of classrooms with elevator, 4 chemical top labs and a fine arts wing.

Gilbane is providing construction management program administrator services for Houston Independent School District’s multi-phased, multiple-school construction project that is part of an $808.6 million bond program.

Gilbane is overseeing 10 of those school projects, which include new construction, renovation and demolition projects. Construction will begin January 2004 and end December 2006.  The cost of these combined projects is estimated at $208 million.



Katy Independent School District

New high school for 3,000 students; a 600-student Ninth Grade Center will be master-planned for future construction. Site amenities will include competition football, baseball, softball and practice fields, as well as tennis courts. The site will also have a new library and administrative suite, 900-seat auditorium, black box theatre, band hall, and an olympic-style swimming pool for competition swimming. Parking will be provided for 1,427 cars, and bus drop-off areas and visitor drop-off areas will also be included.



Lamar Consolidated Independent School District

Gilbane is providing program management services for Lamar Consolidated ISD’s multi-phased, multiple-school construction project, which is part of a $147 million bond program. Gilbane is overseeing work at two new elementary schools; additions and renovations to five schools; renovation to 11 schools; and renovations at four other district facilities. Also includes district-wide upgrades to fire systems, phone systems, security systems and land acquisition for future schools.

This much-needed facility will encompass more than 600,000 square feet and accommodate 3,000 students. Katy ISD is the fastest-growing school district in the Houston metro area. In addition to classrooms; library and media center; science and computer labs; and an administrative suite; the school consists of specialty areas for fine arts performances, vocational learning and athletic activities. It also features a new library and media center.

Additions and renovations to the Cypress Fairbanks High School. The scope includes complete demolition of existing classroom areas and existing cafeteria and construction of new classroom facilities and new cafeteria. Interior demolition of classroom areas support spaces and complete reconstruction of these areas including new library space, office areas, technology areas, career areas, etc. New sitework, parking lots, utilities and new HVAC and electrical systems are also included.

This project involved a new junior high school as well as classroom additions and renovationsto existing schools. This program spans eighteen months and is divided into five phases with renovations and new construction on seven independent campuses.

In addition, a new regional educational recreation facility (aquatic natatorium) was constructed which includes five separate pool controls and equipment, two slide towers and a 26,500 natatorium.

The new 258,000-square-foot facility will house courtrooms and other support offices. This new facility is designed to compliment the 107-year old historic courthouse located across its intersection. It is part of the Tarrant County Downtown Fort Worth campus, which includes a maximum-security jail, civil and criminal courts and County administration offices. Tarrant County Family Law Center will be one of a hand full of courthouses in the nation dedicated solely to family law.

Vivarium and laboratory facility totaling 525,000 square feet, featuring two floors of vivarium space (totaling 104,580 square feet) and six floors of research-laboratory space. The height of the building is equivalent to a 16-story building because of interstitial floors above each laboratory. All MEP services are located on the interstitial floors for easy access and maintenance without disrupting sensitive research.



Baylor College of Medicine

Gilbane provided at-risk construction management services for this $30 million facility that included an underground, small-animal vivarium used for housing mice for medical research. Project also involved renovating an existing loading dock and construction of a new corridor tunneled beneath an existing building that connects the laboratory facility to the loading dock. Project was performed on a very aggressive fast-track schedule.

Baylor College of Medicine

Two phases of 281,000 SF build out of a 17-story Alkek Tower research laboratory along with 58,000 SF of major renovations and additions to laboratories on campus. The build out consisted of genome sequencing labs, gene therapy labs, a breast cancer research lab, an immunology lab, The Huffington Center on Aging, a cell biology lab, a biochemistry lab, a pharmacology lab, a glass wash facility, and an electron microscope area.

Early in the design phase, the team coordinated drawings with selected contractors and produced detailed plans that revealed and solved constructability issues. Despite many challenges with long lead times for materials, the 464,000-square-foot convention center was delivered on time and within budget.

This multipurpose 180,250-square-foot arena has seating for 8,156 fans to watch the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, part of the Central Professional Hockey League, and the Men and Women?s NCAA Division 1 basketball team of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi teams. Future plans include a $20 million expansion and rehab of convention center that involves a 20,000-square-foot ballroom and grand lobby. The structure's glass exterior is intended to compliment the waterfront area and improve the city's competitive position in attracting more events and shows.

The new 900,000-square-foot, six-level garage has parking for 2,500 cars. The project also involved a 150,000-square-foot baggage area for Terminal C with connection bridges and moving walkways that required road and site utility work. It features connecting pedestrian walkways that link the ticket lobby as well as the inteterminal train. Roadway and surface parking modifications were also performed. To reduce traffic bottlenecks, major portions of the concrete work were done at night.
